We back high performing organisations to maximise their social impact
We support high performing charities and social enterprises which have strong leadership and solid track records. We want our funding to help them become as resilient and effective as they can.
We do this in three main areas:
We work with social sector organisations that provide support services to their beneficiaries. Our borrowers can have more impact if their clients are living in decent and appropriate housing. Our funding makes it possible for borrowers to buy suitable properties while avoiding the main financial risks that normally come with buying property.
* Housing due to be purchased with loans that have been approved, as well as housing that is expected to be purchased with money invested into SASH but not yet committed to charities
Social and Sustainable Housing, our flagship fund, works with charities that provide Transitional Supported Housing. In a 2020 report that SASC supported, IPPR North observed that it was lack of access to suitable finance that stopped these organisations doing more work in this sector. The full report can be read here.

SASC enables communities to design local energy solutions that address the reality of climate change and retain profits for the local area. In 2020 SASC acquired Leapfrog Bridge Finance (now renamed SASC Bridge Finance) from Pure Leapfrog. SASC Bridge Finance increases our commitment to this sector and allows us to expand our lending.

In the UK, the community renewables sector makes up a small percentage of the overall market, but continues to grow year on year.
To date, SASC has provided financing to projects that make up 18%* of all community renewables projects in the UK, as reported by Community Energy England.

SASC’s generalist funds (CIF and TSIF) support social sector organisations that want to build and develop their operations to meet local needs. We look to understand the impact that each project will have on the communities and individuals who are involved.
