Giroscope is a charity that was set up in 1985 by a group of volunteers who were responding to the housing crisis in deprived neighbourhoods of Hull. Many parts of the city suffered following the collapse of the trawling industry. One result was low levels of owner occupation a high level of poorly maintained private rented housing.

Giroscope has now been helping for over 30 years to regenerate its local community by providing housing, employment and training. The charity buys and renovates empty property to provide homes for those in need. Giroscope also works with a large cohort of volunteers, many of whom are at risk of social exclusion, and trains them through the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.
